(English below) Esta historia sobre huertas urbanas creadas en la ciudad paraguaya de Ñemby, en plena cuarentena global obligatoria de 2020, forma parte del proyecto “Esto no es una cadena” realizado en conjunto con Ruda Colectiva, con el apoyo del fondo de emergencia para periodistas de National Geographic en el marco del Covid 19.
El proyecto Esto No Es Una Cadena busca evidenciar las diversas caras de esa necesidad colectiva llevándonos de la mano por 10 países de América Latina, una de las regiones más amenazadas por el COVID-19 debido a sus problemas preexistentes como la desigualdad, la inestabilidad política y los sistemas de salud deficientes.
En medio de esa emergencia sanitaria, la colectiva de mujeres fotógrafas y comunicadoras latinoamericanas, Ruda Colectiva, exploran las grietas que ha producido la pandemia en la ya frágil cadena alimentaria de la región, la dificultad del acceso a los alimentos y la relación que los individuos tienen con ellos que, no necesariamente, se encuentra encadenado a las formas habituales de consumo. El sistema alimentario tiene muchas aristas y no siempre es una cadena lineal. Nuestros sistemas alimentarios llevan décadas sentados al borde del precipicio: niños que sólo reciben una comida al día, países con poca producción y recortes alimentarios, familias pobres alrededor del mundo viviendo bajo la incertidumbre de si podrán tener un plato de comida en la mesa al día siguiente; padeciendo a su vez costos de vida inestables y migración forzada.

This story about urban gardens created in the Paraguayan city of Ñemby, in the midst of the mandatory global quarantine of 2020, is part of the project "This is not a chain" carried out in conjunction with Ruda Colectiva, with the support of the National Emergency Fund for Journalists. The This Is Not A Chain project seeks to highlight the various faces of that collective need by taking us by the hand through 10 countries in Latin America, one of the regions most threatened by COVID-19 due to its pre-existing problems such as inequality, political instability and deficient health systems. In the midst of this health emergency, the collective of Latin American women photographers and communicators, Ruda Colectiva, explores the cracks that the pandemic has produced in the region's already fragile food chain, the difficulty of access to food and the relationship that individuals have with them, which is not necessarily chained to the usual forms of consumption. The food system has many edges and is not always a linear chain. Our food systems have been sitting on the edge of the precipice for decades: children who only receive one meal a day, countries with low production and food shortages, poor families around the world living under the uncertainty of whether they will be able to have a plate of food on the table a day following; suffering in turn unstable costs of living and forced migration.
